Newport Action Centre presents: The People’s Kitchen

Tomorrow (28th Sept.) the newly squatted Newport Action Centre (89 Lower Dock St, Pill, NP20 2AH) will open its doors to all for the first time at 11am.index
The Newport People’s Kitchen will serve a free vegan meal to anyone from 12noon to 2pm, with people more than welcome to stay for the whole day, enjoy free tea and coffee, browse the radical library and free shop, or just chat.
There will be a meeting of South Wales Anarchists at 5pm to discuss things like court solidarity and the forthcoming arms fair in Cardiff.
At 7pm there will be a film showing to wind down at the end of the day.
We will not charge for anything on the day, but welcome donations (both financial and material) to help us run the space and make the People’s Kitchen a regular event.
Our wish-list includes: chairs, books, cutlery and feel free to bring any other items you may think are useful to us.

Following the huge success of last year’s picnic, so many people have asked for a similar one this year; an inclusive, non-commercialised community based event celebrating our sexual and gender diversity: So here it is!

1:15 – 2:15 Yoga by Reiki Moon
Start the afternoon with an hour of beautiful physical, mental, and spiritual exercises to transform your body and mind.

2:15 – 2:30 Poetry by Jake Ord
Very powerful use of aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of the English language to highlight some severe topics and thoughts in our society.

2:30 – 3:00 Music by Aislinn Peters & Rhiannon Lord

Self pronounced lady-lovin acoustic singer/songwriterr, the refreshing sounds of Georgia Paterson was recently featured as ‘Welsh Artist of the Week’ on BBC Radio Wales. Her debut single was produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) with Catatonia’s Aled Richards on drums.

4:00 – 5:00 Speed dating & Friends making by Rufus Pearce
Session organised by the wonderful Rufus where you can come and meet people of different genders, sexuality, backgrounds, and life paths.

5:00 – 5:20 Belly dancing by Dancing Queer
What’s that? Belly dancers should have long hair and shave their legs and underarms? Well, not this one! The pierced and tattooed queer dancer will give you a very oriental performance with a twist.

5:20 – finish Drum Circle
To finish off, join us in a large drum circle to play some banging tunes till we drop! Don’t let the name fool you, all musical instruments are happily welcome.
